Chairs under 30” will have space closer to the stage. Chairs 30-34” high should be set up farthest. No recliners or footrests are allowed. If your chair has a shade cover, it must be left in the down position.
Strollers
Personal shade tents are allowed as long as they do not impede on others.
Canes and similar mobility assistance devices like trekking sticks are permitted if there are no metal points protruding from bottom or concealed.
Personal umbrellas in the event of rain, but must be closed during performances
Point-and-shoot cameras are permitted but cannot be used to reproduce the event and must not interfere with other fans’ enjoyment of the event. Be present!
Medications and prescriptions
Over the counter medications are allowed. If you bring prescription medication, please bring a valid photo ID that matches the name printed on your prescription.

In the event of an emergency, please follow the directions of the event staff and listen for stage announcements.
IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING
If you experience odd behavior or see something you know shouldn’t be somewhere, say something. Report suspicious behavior to any security staff.
SECURITY
If you bring any of the items on the above prohibited items list into the festival, such items will be confiscated and discarded. Under no circumstances will festival management hold any prohibited items for you.
MEDICAL
There is a First Aid Care Station staffed by San Diego Black Nurses Association, located inside the George Stevens Senior Center. It is staffed from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Do not hesitate to visit our medical tents if you need medical attention.
THINGS TO KNOW
CAMERAS & RECORDING
Professional audio and video equipment are prohibited, as is audio-capturing. Please be courteous when using your cell phone or non-professional camera (no detachable lenses) to take pictures and video. We encourage you to keep cell phone and camera use to a minimum as to not interfere with others’ experiences.
SEATING
The viewing area is uncovered. A limited amount of seating is available on a first come first served. Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs (30”-34”).
ADA ACCESSIBILITY
ADA SEATING: The venue is fairly flat, allowing for accessibility in the viewing areas. Additionally, we do offer an area reserved exclusively for our patrons with disabilities. ADA seating is located in a roped off area to the side of the sound board. This area is accessible by a paved road from the event entrance. Because space is limited, each disabled patron is allowed one guest to accompany. Seating is not provided in this area so guests should bring lawn chairs.
ADA PARKING: Parking for patrons with disabilities is located in lots on Skyline Drive and limited parking in a designated lot off of 65 th Street. When entering the lot patrons needing access to this lot must show their handicapped license plate or placard, or other state-issued identification. The holder of the placard or identification MUST BE a passenger in the vehicle. Violation of any ADA placard or license carries a fine of up to $500.
OFFICIAL POLICIES
1) All artists, set times and stages are subject to change. All advertised acts have confirmed their appearance at the festival. However, acts are subject to change without notice.
2) Events take place rain or shine. If severe weather becomes a threat and we need to interrupt programming, stage announcements will be made regarding safety procedures. Programming will resume when deemed safe.
3) Please review accepted and prohibited items.
4) Any patron that directly or indirectly interferes with the enjoyment of the event may be asked to leave the venue and may be subject to arrest and prosecution by State/Local Authorities.
5) The event will continue to make every effort to ensure socially responsible behavior to allow all patrons to enjoy the event.
6) The festivals encourage a smoke-free environment and asks that you respect the health of your neighbors at the event and refrain from smoking in any area where it may affect someone else. Smoking is prohibited under all tents and inside buildings. Please find an isolated area if you must smoke and dispose of your butts properly.
7) ADA* recognized service animals trained specifically to assist a person with disabilities at all events. Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted at the festivals. If you have a certified service animal, you will be required to always have your service animal with you. Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices.
*Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the definition of “service animal” is limited to a dog (or pony) that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability who is in attendance. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability. An Online Art Competition for the2024 San Diego Black Arts + Culture Music Festival Poster
The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art is seeking original artwork by local artists for a poster inviting all to the San Diego Black Arts + Culture Music Festival.
About the San Diego Black Arts + Culture Music Festival:
Festival Director, Kamau Kenyatta, has assembled some of San Diego's finest musicians to provide an enjoyable afternoon of music in celebration of Black Music Month. Festival goers will enjoy a range of music including jazz, neo-soul, R+B, and soul. The festival will be held at Marie Widman Park in the heart of the San Diego Black Arts + Culture District. It is an opportunity for local residents and music lovers from all over San Diego to experience great music and become familiar with the district.

Eligibility:
Artists must reside in San Diego or Imperial counties.
Specifications for Submitted Artwork:
1. The original artwork will serve as an invitation to the festival. The submittal may be a work that currently exists, or a piece of work created specifically for the event.
2. The original artwork can be of any medium that can be scanned or photographed so it can be used in print and digital formats.
3. The artist selected is not responsible for the development of the final poster. The artwork that is selected is meant to be eye-catching, engaging, inspiring and poetic.
4. All rights to the original artwork will be assigned to the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art.

Notification of Winner: April 2, 2024
Honorarium:
Following the competitive process in which the art has been submitted, the selected artist will be awarded a $1,000 honorarium. The winner will also be recognized during the festival.
Entry Information:
1. Artists must include their name and contact information
2. Artists must submit one piece of artwork for consideration via email or digital download. Scans or photographs need to be high-quality press-ready files (tiff, png or jpg) at least 300dpi.
3. Artists must provide an artist statement: A brief statement explaining the artist’s process techniques and concept.
4. Artists must include a description of the work submitted: A paragraph describing the piece that the artist is submitting to be featured on the poster.
